Dr. Mathew Ricks is a passionate and caring family, cosmetic and restorative dentist who loves the art of making a smile look natural and beautiful. He loves getting to know all of his patients and their stories. Dr. Ricks stays up to date on the latest trends in dentistry to be able to provide the best care available.
Dr. Ricks graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1988. After graduating he worked for the Indian Health Service for two years after which he moved to Arizona.
Dr. Ricks has practiced in Arizona for over twenty-six years, and has a broad experience in many phases of dentistry, including root canals, implants, conscious sedation, orofacial pain (TMJ), and oral surgery.
In 2010, Dr. Ricks earned his Fellowship Award in the academy of General Dentistry. This award requires over 500 hours of post graduate continuing education. Less than 1% of dentists in the US achieve this award. He is currently finishing his MAGD, which is a master of general dentistry.
Dr. Ricks and his wife Kaye are the parents of 5 children, and have 12 grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family as well as bicycling, swimming and woodcarving.
Wendy will be the first person to greet you with a warm, welcoming smile. She keeps our office running smoothly and efficiently. Wendy has over 20 years of experience in many aspects of dentistry. Her knowledge of everything has made her an integral and valuable member of our Thornydale Dental Team. She takes great pride in her ability to help our patients in a variety of ways, from understanding dental procedures to deciphering the confusing aspect of dental insurance.
Wendy enjoys spending time hiking and watching sports with her husband, especially when the University of Arizona is playing. She has two sons and a daughter-in-law that she loves seeing when they come to visit! Her oldest son is a custom guitar builder in Austin, Texas; her youngest son is a student at Northern Arizona University.

Sarah has been a hygienist since 2006. Her skills and knowledge of hygiene make her an exceptional hygienist. She will help you with your dental appointments even if you have a fear of the dentists. She genuinely cares about all of her patients.
Sarah enjoys spending time with her three kids, Aspen, Dillon and Hayden. Her hobbies include finding new places to take a vacation, watching football and the UofA basketball team.

Shawn has been with Thornydale Dental since its inception. His expertise and gentle skills as a hygienist are truly exceptional. Many of our patients credit him with giving them the ability to move beyond a lifelong fear of dental visits. He gets to know our patients personally, developing close relationships with most. Our patients love his attention to detail, gentle technique, and personal hygiene coaching.
In his free time, Shawn enjoys spending time with his daughter Alexis. His hobbies include golf, softball, snowboarding, and U of A sporting events. Shawn is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association.

Tammy’s ability to put patients at ease is a skill she has mastered and perfected during her 25 plus years of dental assisting. Her clinical skills are phenomenal; she is always one step ahead and in tune with every detail of the task at hand. Her careful management of our sterilization, lab, and clinical supplies contribute greatly to the overall success of our office.
Tammy enjoys spending time with her husband, David, who is a blacksmith and artist. His work is currently on display in Oro Valley Marketplace. Tammy and David have two children, Dena and Darcy, who live in Tempe. In her free time, Tammy enjoys walking, reading, cooking, and playing horseshoes. She is a past recipient of the Pima County Humanitarian Award.
